Our Programs

The vision of the Carpenter Art Garden is to empower the children of Binghampton to create their best futures. We accomplish this through our four areas of emphasis that make up our Seeds of Peace Community Programs - After-School and Youth Enrichment, Youth Workforce Development, Community Outreach and Community Gardens.

After-School and Youth Enrichment

We provide year-round enrichment for Binghampton youth through vibrant after-school programs, spring activities and summer camps. Participants engage in painting, sculpture, mural-making, music, dance, garden-based projects and collaborative workshops that develop artistic skills while building teamwork and inspiring confidence.

2026 Spring After-School

Register today! Spaces still available!

January 13 - May 14

The Carpenter Art Garden’s Seeds of Peace after school program is the major component in carrying out our mission. This program serves the Binghampton community through art, mindfulness, urban farming workshops, and youth entrepreneurship. Our program creates a safe and supportive environment where participants can engage in meaningful art based activities that promote personal growth, community bonding and sustainable living.

This year we are offering many new and amazing opportunities through themed programming days:

Arts Tuesday - Photography workshops taught by a professional photographer will be included.

Work It Out Wednesdays - Chaperoned bike riding on the Green Line returns!

Performance Art Thursdays - Ballet classes at Collage Dance Collective and drumming have been added to our mix of enrichment opportunities.

Youth Workforce Development

Carpenter Art Garden’s Youth Workforce Development Program provides paid, hands-on learning opportunities that build practical skills, leadership, and pathways to employment.

Through the Teen Makers Club (ages 14–18), youth gain experience in entrepreneurship, product development, and sales through vocational and apprenticeship-based learning.

Through our Teen Hub program, youth are hired in paid hourly roles supporting facilities, garden, and program operations, as well as art apprenticeships that offer real-world work experience while strengthening creativity, responsibility, and community connection.

Makers Club

Registration Open - Programming starts January 21, 2026

Students in in the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade who are interested in art and creativity can put these skill to work by learning how to market and sell the pieces they make. Students will also help and earn income from making the unique Grizz Hearts yard signs that are see throughout Memphis.

Teen Job Hub

The Teen Job Hub employs Art Garden youth who are prepared for more responsibility. When we ask applicants why they want to work at the Art Garden they say they want to work with people they love, be in a space where they feel supported, and do work that is fun and that they feel is important for the neighborhood.

Some of the opportunities have been grant-supported work — including the design and production of artwork for Mosaic Garden and Orchard, the Welcome to Binghampton Mural and Tillman Sculpture Park, and Camp Counselor Opportunities.

For upcoming opportunities, please email Tarlisa Evans at tarlisa@carpenterartgarden.org or contact the CAG administrative office at 901.249.3577.

About CAG’s Community Gardens

The Community Gardens operates as a social enterprise designed to address food insecurity with dignity while ensuring long-term sustainability.

Earned revenue from farm stands, workshops, and community events reinvests in food distribution, youth stipends, and community programming.

We harvest and sell produce throughout the Binghampton neighborhood and the greater Memphis Community, with the goal of expanding to supply local restaurants and farmers’ markets.

You can support by purchasing produce through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, sponsoring a produce bag through the Veggie Club, or shopping at select pop-up markets and events.

Why Purchase From Us?

Direct Community Impact

Every purchase directly supports food access for Binghampton residents living in a “food desert.” Revenue employs youth workers in our youth workforce program to work alongside our Urban Farmer. They contribute directly to food production and distribution, earn stipends, and develop a sense of ownership over neighborhood resources.

Locally Grown, Fresh, and Seasonal

Produce is harvested locally and distributed quickly at pop-up markets, farmer’s markets, and events.

Transparent Social Enterprise Model

Buyers can clearly see where their dollars go—funding food production, youth stipends, community distribution, and garden infrastructure.

Neighborhood Investment, Not Charity

Keeps money circulating locally, supports living-wage work, and builds long-term community assets rather than short-term food relief.

Education & Engagement Built In

Sustains workshops, youth learning opportunities, and community gatherings that strengthen food knowledge.

Community Outreach

Through initiatives sponsored by the Carpenter Art Garden, like holiday meals, neighborhood festivals and family art programs, we provide meaningful experience, build relationships and meet immediate community needs. Our community outreach events and programs serve more than 1,000 Binghampton residents each year.

Events in 2025 included a Neighborhood Night Out, the Harvest Festival, a Paint and Chill party, the Holiday Hampline Parade, and a Turkey Give-away.

Cheers to all who participated in the 2025 Holiday Hampline Parade

More than 200 families received turkeys and side items for their Thanksgiving meal
