About the Project

Tillman Sculpture Park is a public art destination that celebrates the history, resilience, and creative spirit of the Binghampton neighborhood.

Located at the corner of Tillman Street and Princeton Avenue in the heart of Binghampton, Tillman Sculpture Park is a public art destination created by Carpenter Art Garden. Situated just a few blocks from the organization's main campus, the park transforms an underutilized corner into a place of beauty, reflection, and community gathering.

Through sculpture, murals, mosaics, and landscape design, it embodies Carpenter Art Garden's commitment to neighborhood revitalization, public art, youth development, and celebrating the rich history and creative spirit of Binghampton.

The project reflects Carpenter Art Garden's mission of growing young creatives through art, educational, and vocational programs while demonstrating how public art can strengthen neighborhoods and inspire future generations.

Our Vision

Tillman Sculpture Park is more than an art installation—it is a symbol of growth.

Historically, Binghampton began as a small farming community outside the City of Memphis, surrounded by farmland and railroads and located just south of the Pope Cotton Plantation. According to the 1900 U.S. Census, the neighborhood was home to residents from diverse backgrounds, including a significant Black community whose labor helped build the area's agricultural and railroad economy.

From this complex history has emerged a vibrant neighborhood known today for its creativity, resilience, and culture.

Through Tillman Sculpture Park, Carpenter Art Garden seeks to honor that journey by celebrating the people, stories, and artistic legacy that continue to shape Binghampton. The park invites visitors to reflect on the past while imagining a future rooted in creativity, belonging, and community pride.

Community Collaboration

Tillman Sculpture Park is the result of years of collaboration between artists, neighborhood leaders, public agencies, foundations, businesses, and community members.
